Different tools, different jobs

Otter.ai and AiType are designed for different workflows. Check each provider's current features and supported integrations. AiType is a voice dictation keyboard: hold the desktop shortcut, or tap Mic and then tap Stop on mobile, to create a cleaned draft in supported apps and text fields. It typically completes transcription and cleanup in about 250 ms; timing varies.

That said, there is overlap: both can transcribe your voice. If you're choosing between them for dictation specifically, here's the full comparison.

Can I use both?

Yes, and many people do. Otter handles your meetings. AiType handles everything else — the 50+ messages, emails, and prompts you type each day when you're not in a meeting. They don't conflict and serve genuinely different moments in your workflow.

Otter's dictation mode vs AiType

Otter does have a mobile dictation mode where you speak into the app and get a transcript. But it's designed for personal notes, not keyboard replacement. You can't use it to write a Slack message, a Cursor prompt, or a LinkedIn post without leaving the app and copy-pasting. AiType's keyboard sits at the OS level and pastes directly into whatever app you're focused on.

The AI cleanup is also different. Otter summarises conversations but doesn't rework your individual spoken sentences for polish. AiType's cleanup pass specifically targets filler words, run-on sentences, capitalisation, and awkward phrasing to make each dictation paste-ready.

Bottom line

AiType may suit users who want a voice-first drafting workflow; Otter may suit users who need meeting transcription. Choose based on your apps, privacy requirements, and review needs.
